Echinacea purpurea, with aster yellows, Echinacea purpurea attacked by Aster Yellows, also known as "Echinacea phytoplasma", and "Candidatus phytoplasma asteris." Phytoplasmas are a group of prokaryotic, microscopic plant pathogens that cause over 700 plant diseases. They are found mainly in the phloem sieve tubes of plant hosts and in sucking insects, which act as vectors. These include leafhoppers (aster yellows Phytoplasma vector), planthoppers and psyllids.
