Photos of Equisetum telmatiea, Giant Horsetail
Giant Horsetail, Equisetum telmatiea found throughout much of the northern hemisphere, is a large species growing up to six feet tall with beautiful foliage making it suitable as an ornamental for moist soils. Historically the young leaves were used as a famine food dating back to Roman times. In the European countryside the plant was mixed with the food of cows as it was believed to increase the quantity of milk produced. Also used as a diuretic.
