Fragaria x ananassa, Strawberry

Fragaria x ananassa, Strawberry, Strawberries. Our common cultivated strawberry emerges in the eighteenth century as a cross between the native North American wild strawberry, Fragaria virginiana and the South American species from Chile, Fragaria chiloensis. The leaves are traditionally used as an external wash for sunburns. Strawberries are high in Vitamin C, manganese and potassium, and are abundant in healthful antioxidant compounds.
