Leonurus japonicus, L. artemisia, L. heterophylla, Chinese Motherwort, Yi-mu-cao.

Chinese Motherwort, Yi mu cao, Leonurus japonicus, and the common European motherwort have been used for similar purposes, mainly menstrual and circulatory-related problems for many centuries. They serve as excellent examples of plants used for parallel purposes by divergent cultures, and whose uses are confirmed by modern research. The first mention of the plant in Chinese herbal literature comes in the first Chinese materia medica, Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing. Shen Nong noted that the seeds brightened the eyes, increased vigor, acted as a diuretic, and over the long term, helped to promote light weight and good health.
