Picea abies, Norway Spruce

Picea abies, Norway Spruce is native to Europe and widely naturalized elsewhere. Preparations of the fresh shoots collected in spring are used in Europe for catarrh of the respiratory tract; externally for mild rheumatic or neuralgic pains. Liniments, ointments, gels and other external preparations containing the essential oil are similarly used. Inner bark is considered diuretic. The resin is also historically used in scurvy and arthritis.
