Three images of Silene vulgaris, Bladder Campion, Caryophyllaceae, Pink Family, found throught much of North America except for the southen tier of states, this weedy plant is a European native whose leaves were eaten when other food was scarce. In Crete, the leaves and tender shoots, browned in olive oil, are a local delicacy. The saponin-containing, foaming roots have been used as a soap.
