Photos of Viburnum prunifolium, Black Haw, Blackhaw

Viburnum prunifolium, Blackhaw is found in moist woods in eastern North America. The root- or stem-bark tea was used by indigenous groups, then adopted by Europeans for painful menses and to relieve spasms after childbirth. Considered uterine tonic, sedative, antispasmodic, and nervine. Research confirms uterine-sedative, pain-reliving, anti-inflammatory, and spasm-reducing properties.
