Twelve images of Viburnum prunifolium or Blackhaw found in moist woods in eastern North America. The root- or stem-bark was used by native groups, then adopted by Europeans for painful menses, relieve spasms after childbirth, among other uses. Considered uterine tonic, sedative, antispasmodic, and nervine. Research confirms uterine-sedative, pain-reliving, anti-inflammatory, and spasm-reducing, properties.
