Andrographis paniculata is an annual member of the Acanthaceae which is common in India and elsewhere in tropical Asia. A traditional name, Maha-tikta, translates into "king of bitters." Traditionally used as a bitter and stomachic, among other uses. Positioned in Western herb markets to lessen symptoms and reduce duration of colds and upper respiratory tract infections.
