Aristolochia tomentosa Sims, Isotrema tomentosum (Sims) Huber, Dutchman's Pipe, Woolly Pipevine, Woolly Dutchman's Pipe which occurs in alluvial soils along streams and rivers in much of the Southeastern United States, depending upon taxonomic interpretation, has recently been put back in C. S. Rafinesque's genus Isotrema. Historically used as a weak substitute for Virginia Snakeroot Aristolochia serpentaria (now Endodeca serpentaria (L.) Raf.) which was used for the treatment of fevers and as a treatment of venomous snakebite.
