Calystegia sepium, Convolvulus sepium, Hedge Bindweed, a cosmopolitan invasive alien, with blunt lobes at the leaf base along with a pair of bracts below the calyx. Root historically used as a purgative and a substitute for the Mexican jalap (Ipomoea purga). Also used for jaundice, gallbladder ailments, perhaps increasing bile flow into intestines. Root a folk cancer remedy. Contains alkaloids called calystegines.
