Photos of Chrysanthemum morifolium, syn. Dendranthema grandiflorum, Ju hua, Mums.

Mums, Ju hua, Chrysanthemum morifolium. Designated as a hybrid complex Chrysanthemum x morifolium or Chrysanthemum x grandiflorum has well over 500 horticultural selections, including single-flowered Chinese medicinal forms shown here with white flowers. In China over 500 cultivars were described by 1630, while only 6 cultivars of mums were known in Holland by 1689. Cultivars include a rainbow of colors including white, yellow, red, purple, orange, and pink forms and variations. Traditionally the flowers are used in prescriptions for cold, headache, inflamed eyes, tinnitus, and other conditions. They were stuffed into pillows for treating colds and headache. Ju hua is still used in the modern Chinese Pharmacopoeia.
