Ficus carica Fig, Figs, Fig leaf is known for it's edible fruit, which is actually a succulent slightly hollow receptacle containing the flowers within. It is one of the iconic food plants of the Middle East and Mediterranean region. The caustic white latex from the branches has been used to remove spots from the skin. The mucilaginous fresh dried leaves have traditionally been used as a laxative and pectoral for coughs. Figs are considered slightly laxative.
