Fragaria vesca, Wild Strawberry. This species is usually associated with being indigenous to all of Europe, Western Asia, into the Himalaya and eastward to mountain ranges of Central China. It is naturalized in the the northeast of North America as Fragaria vesca var. vesca. However, Fragaria vesca var. americana is indigenous North American genetic material. The photographs here were all taken in the Balkans in Europe. Linnaeus famously ate wild strawberries as a preventative and treatment for gout.
