Photos of Lobelia siphilitica, Great Blue Lobelia

Blue Lobelia one our most striking late summer wildflowers is found in sandy or gravelly soils at the edge of creeks or seeps of springs. It is widespread in eastern North America. Early medical writers observed that the Mohawk used the root to treat syphilis, hence the species name siphilitica.
