Ocimum campechianum, Ocimum micranthum. This basil is native to the New World and is named for Campeche, a Mexican state and town. It has straight rather than curved hairs and is used in various parts of Latin American as a folk medicine. In El Salvador leaves have been used as a remedy for earache. The herb was included in the earliest herbal from the Americas, the Badianus Codex, the Aztec Herbal of 1552.
