Ostrya virginiana, Hop Hornbeam. According to Foster and Duke's 3rd edtion of A Field Guide to Medicinal Plants and Herbs, "Cherokee used bark tea as blood builder, to bathe sore muscles. Chippewa used wood steambaths to treat Iroquois used bark decoction for rectal cancer. Decoction of the heartwood used as folk medicine to treat fevers, as a tonic, and blood purifier for malaria, nervous conditions, and dyspepsia."
