Polystichum acrostichoides, Christmas Fern, Dagger Fern, Fiddleheads.

Polystichum acrostichoides, Christmas Fern, Dagger Fern, Fiddleheads. A widespread and common fern throughout rich woods and rocky slopes in eastern North America. It has evergreen fronds (deciduous when new growth emerges in spring), hence was used as Christmas decorative greenery. Native groups used root tea for chills, fevers, stomachaches (to induce vomiting), pneumonia, poulticed root or used as a wash for rheumatism. It is assumed to be toxic.
