Stachys palustris, woundwort, allheal, downy woundwort, marsh woundwort, marsh hedgenettle is a highly variable perennial member of the mint family (Lamiaceae) widespread in North America, Europe and Asia. Roots are considered edible. Bruised leaves applied to wound to staunch bleeding and promote healing. Fresh juice used in syrup to allay internal bleeding. Infusion traditionally used for gout, cramps, joint pains. Toads are attracted to the plant's odor.
