Zinnia grandiflora, Prairie Zinnia, Rocky Mountain Zinnia
Zinnia grandiflora, Prairie Zinnia, Rocky Mountain Zinnia is an attractive native plant found in sw Kansas, sw Oklahoma, w Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, to se Colorado and used by native groups within that relatively limited range. According to Daniel Moerman's Native American Ethnobotany database an infusion of the plant was used by the Keres as a bath for excessive sweating, or drunk for kidney troubles. It was used by the Navajo as a ceremonial plant, and internally for stomachache and heartburn. The Zuni used it for sweat baths, externally applied to burns. This drought-tolerant, high heat durable native plant is available in horticulture.
